Religion suppressor of Science?

RELIGION TEACHES PEOPLE NOT TO SEEK KNOWLEDGE! It is a terrible institution of superstition that held back the growth of science. They killed people for doing science; they had prevented methodological naturalism and encourage belief in magic and the supernatural. – Padre Damaso CBCP (THE CANTO'T BIHON'S CONFERENCE OF THE PHILIPPINES)

[A Filipino Neo Atheist left this comment on this blog]

Take a few seconds and check this illustration below:

What comes instantly to your mind?

Yes, the Theory of evolution and you are correct, when you say Evolution the twin name is Charles Darwin – the very scientist that Atheist idolize!

'In my most extreme fluctuations I have never been an atheist in the sense of denying the existence of God." [Darwin, Francis, The Life of Charles Darwin. London: Tiger Books,1995, 55]

Oppssss sorry… Mr. Charles Darwin is not an Atheist LOL.

Going back to the illustration above, if Charles Darwin summarized his Theory of Evolution in 1842, this drawing was a 176 years older than the one he made, it is a 15th century illustration drew by another MAN OF RELIGION!

Meet Bishop Nicolas Steno (1638–1686) – the Father of Geology and Stratigraphy, and is known for Steno's principles. He is a Catholic clergy, whose discovery and observations served as the pillars of Paleontology and Geology today. He proved that fossils as a key evidence for how life evolved on Earth over the past billion years. This landmark theory that the fossil record was a chronology of different living creatures in different eras was a SINE QUA NON for Darwin's theory of natural selection.[a]

Now, if the poster is correct by calling RELIGION SUPPRESS SCIENCE, how come this man – a man of Religion paved the way of giving such tremendous knowledge for the future? Why doesn’t he just simply hide what he knows or kept it and made no effort to write a book about it?

He is not alone; they were many of them aside from being a man of Religion – a man of science as well.

Here’s a few names coming from Wikipedia.org: List of Catholic Clerics-Scientist:

Gregor Mendel (1822–1884) – Augustinian monk and father of genetics
Georges Lemaître (1894–1966) – Priest and father of the Big Bang Theory
Luca Pacioli (c. 1446–1517) – Franciscan friar who published several works on mathematics and is often regarded as the Father of Accounting
Basil Valentine (c. 15th century) – Benedictine alchemist whom author James J. Walsh calls the father of modern chemistry.
René Just Haüy (1743–1822) – Priest known as the father of crystallography
Johann Dzierzon (1811–1906) – Priest and pioneering apiarist who discovered the phenomenon of parthenogenesis among bees, and designed the first successful movable-frame beehive; has been described as the "father of modern apiculture"
Ányos Jedlik (1800–1895) – Benedictine engineer, physicist, and inventor; considered by Hungarians and Slovaks to be the unsung father of the dynamo and electric motor
Athanasius Kircher (1602–1680) – Jesuit who has been called the father of Egyptology and "Master of a hundred arts"; wrote an encyclopedia of China; one of the first people to observe microbes through a microscope
Marin Mersenne (1588–1648) – Minim philosopher, mathematician, and music theorist who is often referred to as the "father of acoustics"

And speaking of flying machine, Francesco Lana de Terzi (c. 1631–1687) – a Jesuit Priest referred to as the Father of Aviation (Aeronautics) for his pioneering efforts; he also developed a blind writing alphabet prior to Braille.

The question is still the same, why these people – a man of religion that according to the poster belongs to a terrible institution of superstition that held back the growth of science managed to contribute and change our way of living?

Chinese believed that the Earth was FLAT and SQUARE until the 17th century when Jesuit priest astronomers introduced the spherical round Earth idea to them (Needham, Joseph (1986). Science and Civilization in China). The question is WHY do they have to share what they had discovered if the primary objective of religion is to suppress science?

Let me turn the table now: Is the poster telling lies or just so gullible that he believes any anti-religious lie he hears? Or is he just mimicking and copying arguments he heard from other atheists especially from foreign country (since he is a Filipino)? OR (the most I hate question to ask) Does he has any independent mind of his own or ability to question what other atheists say or think?

Logical and the Moral Truth

Science, yes, has contributed innumerable benefits to us but it is wrong to say that it can explain everything.

Consider this statement “Science is the only way to really know truth.” How could you prove that statement by science? See how it is actually self-refuting, because there is no scientific test/method you could use to prove that it is true.

Another thing, Science cannot prove that rape is wrong; yes because again, there is no scientific test that can prove what is wrong and what is right. (You can't prove by science that the Nazi's were evil, because morality is not subject to the scientific method) Natural science won't ever give an adequate account of the moral truths concerning human life!

Oh well, Morality is subjective. What is true for you may not be true for other people, so each person should be free to make up his own Morality?

Ah hiding from another illogical precept. Relativism, believing that there is no objective truth or no truth that applies to everyone. Let me use here Dr. Sri’s apologetic moves "Is that true? Is relativism true? Is it absolutely true that there are no absolute truths? Is it objectively true, true for everyone, that there are no objective truths?"

"Your relativism seems pretty logically inconsistent!"

In the end, Science cannot explain the Logical and Moral Truth, though this is not deficient in any way of Science, it’s just not the right way to find those particular kinds of truth. To try to do so would be like trying to ascertain whether a banana is tasty by sticking it in your ear and listening to it; it’s simply the wrong method![b]
